Finally, a Monthly Update!
With a Free Lament Writing Guide
As promised, I’m writing you a monthly email! Can you tell I’m proud of myself for getting this done? Cause I am!
1. August Recap: The Holy Scribblers
Thank you for joining me in The Holy Scribblers poetry series last month on Instagram! It’s so cool to see your poetic work and hear your questions about writing poetry. Thank you for encouraging me in my own writing. What a gift!
As you can see, I’m calling all of us Holy Scribblers because I hope:
That our work is set apart to point to Jesus and bring Him glory, and
That we’re all just scribblers. That’s how I’ve often felt in the process of creativity—like all I have are scribbles to offer.
But I have a God who delights in it. And so do you!
You can expect continued monthly prompts for writing! I would love to see and share what you write. If you feel comfortable, tag me @kategoescreating or DM your work. Or if you’d like feedback, I’m happy to give it! I don’t know everything, but I can give preferences and ideas.
2. Free Guide: Start Writing Poetic Prayers
I’m excited to share a free guide to help you start writing poetic prayers—an exclusive resource for email subscribers. That’s you!
Also, if you’re not a writer and find yourself here, that’s good! I think we all can pursue Christian creativity in different ways - in teaching, cooking, hospitality, parenting, serving, etc! But I’m glad we’re not all writers. And I’m glad you’re here Holy Scribbling in whatever way God has called you to.
3. September Series: The Church
This month, I’m sharing my poetic series on The Church! Here’s a preview of the first poem of the series:
I am “the man.”
I took the fruit.
I am the hypocrite,
And the white-washed tomb.
I am the tax collector
And the Pharisee in one.
I am the older brother
And the prodigal son.
Lord,
Convict me, help me see
The log in my own eye
Before I find the specks in others
While I myself am blind.
Help me to see
With humility,
In community,
Sin first in me.
I’m excited to share a collection of poems exploring both the incredible blessing I have experienced through my church, and the convictions I’ve felt—personally and corporately—in church life: evangelism, hypocrisy, Christian celebrity, church culture, and more. I will always say: I LOVE the Church. I LOVE my church. I LOVE my church family. I’m such a big fan of the Church.
I hope you can read the poems in the series for personal conviction first and with humility and love for the Church and family God loves.
May you be offended, convicted, and encouraged as I have been.
See you next month! Until then,
Keep Scribbling,
Kate
P.S.
Several of you asked for printable artwork of the “My Story” poetry, and I got it done! You can purchase digital downloads on Etsy!
